Bush & Backwaters is based in Renmark, on the River Murray in South Australia's Riverland.  Renmark is 254 kilometers northwest of Adelaide and is serviced daily by Stateliner Bus Service O'Connor Airlines fly twice daily between Renmark and Adelaide.  Mildura is 143 kilometers east of Renmark, just across the Victorian border and the Mildura Airport has direct flights from both Melbourne and Sydney.  Departures are available from Renmark, Adelaide and Mildura.


The township of Renmark is nestled on a sweeping bend of the River Murray and is home to more 8000 people.  The site for the township of Renmark (which is aboriginal for Red Mud) was acquired from the original land claim for Bookmark Station (from which the Bookmark Biosphere Reserve takes its name).

Bush & Backwaters operate daily from March to October

The area was earmarked for development as an irrigation settlement and in 1887 the Chaffey Brothers from Canada established the Renmark Irrigation Trust making Renmark the first irrigation settlement in Australia.  The RIT still manages the irrigation needs of the district and the main industries in the region are viticulture, stone fruits, citrus, almonds, wheat, wool and tourism.
