The Mallee CFS Group maintain close liaisons with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Fire Prevention Management within the National Parks of the Mallee Region. The Group also has representation on the Bushfire Prevention Committee for the Southern Mallee area. |
| Cereal crop fires pose a risk during summer harvesting and a Harvest Code of Practice has been developed and implemented in the Southern Mallee area in an effort to help reduce some of these risks. Crop fires can result in huge losses to Farmers in the area. Landholders provide valuable support in reducing the risk to their properties. |

A majority
of the Group's call outs occur in the Summer months when bushfire risk is
at a peak.
With the large number of National Parks in our response area summer lightning strikes always pose a high risk potential for Wildfires igniting in inaccessible areas of Native bushland. |
| The Mallee Highway between Tailem Bend, South Australia and Ouyen, Victoria passes through the centre Mallee Group response area. Numerous large Semi-trailers and Passenger Coaches use this highway as a main route to Sydney, New South Wales, and the Victorian Snow Fields. The heavy |
| traffic load on this highway means we are always on call to respond to Vehicle Accident Rescue. The main incident response of this type is to Semi-trailer rollovers where we are often required to assist with traffic control, rescue with the "Jaws of Life" equipment, if required, and clean up of spilled loads. | ![]() |

All members of the Brigades in our Mallee Group are Volunteer fire-fighters who remain on call 24 hours a day to serve their communities in emergencies including : Fire, Search and Rescue, Vehicle Accident, Storm Damage, and Hazardous Chemical spills. |
| Brigades conduct weekly training activities and join resources to conduct a monthly Group training exercise. These training exercises are held at various locations throughout the group to give volunteers the opportunity to train together using different appliances and equipment outside their Brigade. | ![]() |
