Searching the Directory

You can use an asterisk (*) at the end of a search word, like a wildcard. In that case, the search will find pages that contain the search word, or any word which starts like the search word but is longer. For example, a search for "comput*" would find pages with the words "computer", "computers", "computing", etc.

The asterisk is often useful - without it, the search program thinks that "computer" and "computers" are completely different. Also, it can help you find words and names even when they are spelled wrongly.

The search program assumes there is an "and" between words; that is, pages will be found if they have all the specified words. If you wish to find all the pages that have any of the words in the list, put "or" between your search words. You can use "not" to avoid pages containing a particular word, and brackets to group your requests.
