BIOTOURS SA
(Andy McQuie)
Mission Statement
"To promote the goals of Bookmark Biosphere Reserve by community enrichment
through the provision of high-quality interpretive services in a fun learning
environment."
Two unique tours:
As darkness falls over the mallee and the sun loving animals settle
down to sleep, another world begins to stir. The night creatures of the
desert are waking to begin their shift in the continuing cycle of activity.
This is the busiest time of the day in the desert, yet is a side of the
bush that we rarely get to experience.
Using the light of a full moon to guide us, we take a walk through
the mallee sand dunes of the Bookmark Biosphere to learn about the local
nightlife.
This two and a
half hour tour offers the chance to see and hear;
-
some of the 5000 different types of insects
-
large and small native mammals
-
lizards and birds, bats and frogs
Accompanied
by an expert guide, enjoy;
-
the magic of mallee moonlight
-
tracking animals in the soft red sand
-
navigating by the stars
-
taking a "telescopic" look at the full moon
This tour is a guided night walk suitable for people with a reasonable
level of fitness. Please bring enclosed footwear, camera and a torch.
Far away from the pollution and lights of the city you'll be amazed
at the brilliance of the clear night skies.
Spend an enjoyable evening finding the answers to the questions you've
always had about constellations, meteors and the Southern Cross. Learn
about astronomical events, aboriginal legends, navigation and the patterns
in the stars.
